LeBron James made a significant stride in his recovery on Monday, successfully participating in a full practice session with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The 40-year-old NBA superstar has yet to play this season after being sidelined by sciatica last month, marking the first time in his illustrious career that he has missed the opening weeks of a campaign.
James completed a five-on-five session at the Lakers’ training facility and could be considered for a return when Los Angeles hosts the Utah Jazz on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters, the veteran star emphasized a cautious approach: “We’ve been taking it literally one minute, one hour, one step at a time throughout this whole process. So, see how I feel this afternoon, see how I feel tonight. When I wake up in the morning, we’ll probably have a shootaround. So, just got to see how the body responds over the next 24 hours-plus.”
Lakers head coach JJ Redick confirmed that James’s status for Tuesday’s matchup remains “TBD,” but described the return to training as “like acquiring a new player.”
If cleared, James’s comeback would provide a major boost to the Lakers as they look to regain momentum in the early stages of the NBA season.
