Kupoluyi brings over four decades of industry, energy, and business expertise. LCCI confident new president will strengthen its voice in economic policy reforms
The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has elected Leye Kupoluyi as its 44th President and Chairman of Council, marking the end of the tenure of outgoing president Gabriel Idahosa.
Kupoluyi, an engineer and former Deputy President of the Chamber, was elected on Thursday during the LCCI’s 137th Annual General Meeting held at Commerce House, Victoria Island, Lagos. Idahosa had assumed office on December 7, 2023.
Announcing the new president, LCCI Director-General Chinyere Almona described Kupoluyi as a seasoned professional whose long history of service to the Chamber and the private sector made him the natural choice for the role.
“Leye Kupoluyi was elected President after a duly conducted election at the Chamber’s 137th AGM,” Almona said. “He is an accomplished professional with an exceptional record in engineering services, trade promotion, and industry development.”
She added that the Chamber is confident his leadership will enhance its influence in policy advocacy and strengthen support for Nigerian businesses.
“We are delighted to welcome Engr. Kupoluyi as President of the LCCI,” she noted. “He has consistently contributed strategic insights to the Chamber, and we are confident his presidency will deepen our role as a leading advocate for sound business policies.”
The Chamber said Kupoluyi’s election recognises his longstanding commitment to its values, his contributions to policy engagement, and his passion for promoting a more competitive business environment.
Profile of Leye Kupoluyi
Kupoluyi is a veteran businessman with more than 40 years of experience spanning power engineering, facilities management, renewable energy, and commerce.
He began his career in 1979 at the Federal Ministry of Communications, before rising through senior positions at Honeywell Enterprises Ltd. and Witt & Busch Ltd., where he became General Manager.
In 1995, he founded Universal Power Systems Nigeria Limited, where he serves as Managing Director/CEO.
A Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom, Kupoluyi holds an MBA in Technology Management from Olabisi Onabanjo University and completed a Senior Management Course at the University of Manchester. He is also:
- A Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants
- A member, Institution of Electrical Engineers (UK)
- A member, Bilateral and Multilateral Committee, NACCIMA
- A former Governing Council member, Lagos State Polytechnic (now LASUSTECH), 2015–2019
Within the LCCI, he has held several key positions, including:
- Chairman, Science & Engineering Group (2015–2017)
- Chairman, Trade Promotion Board (2021–2023)
- Deputy President (2023–2025)
He led the Trade Promotion Board to implement major reforms, such as the introduction of the Tech Hub Project and the 2022 free-entry initiative, which boosted attendance and innovation at the Lagos International Trade Fair.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Kupoluyi is active in community and church service and has received numerous awards, including the ECOWAS International Gold Award, the Rotary International Entrepreneurship Service Award, and the Gold Award for Excellence in Business Practice.
