Actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has cautioned against the obsession with fame, stressing that popularity is fleeting and should never define a person’s worth.
Speaking at a conference, Adedimeji urged aspiring creatives to prioritise building substance and honing their craft over chasing recognition.
He said, “Fame is fake! The truth is, fame doesn’t define you, identity does. Your values, your purpose. Fame can come and go. A lot of people come with the mindset of fame first, without the craft. But when the fame fades, what will be left of you?”
The actor added that beyond the spotlight, what remains is one’s true self: “When you go back home, you’re going to be you and you alone. So, at that time when it’s just you, who are you?”
Adedimeji, who recently won Best Indigenous Movie alongside his wife at the 2025 AMVCA for Lisabi: The Uprising, continues to use his platform to champion purpose, values, and creative excellence.
