The Lagos State Government has provided working tools to 1,700 women under its Micro Enterprise Support Initiative, reinforcing its commitment to women’s empowerment and removing barriers to economic advancement.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his wife Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, addressed participants at the 2025 second phase of the programme, organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation at Blue Roof, Alausa, Ikeja.
According to the governor, the initiative is part of the government’s effort to create an enabling environment where women can thrive, protect their rights, and build sustainable livelihoods.
“One of my greatest passions as governor of this state is to empower our women,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“Over the years, I have seen first-hand that when you empower a woman, you empower a family, a community, and indeed the entire society.”
The items distributed included sewing machines, hairdressing kits, stoning machines, aluminium fabricating machines, as well as agricultural tools, fertilizer, and seeds, equipping the women to grow their businesses and increase productivity.
Sanwo-Olu assured that his administration would continue to strengthen laws, policies, and institutions that safeguard women’s rights, dignity, and equal opportunities.
“Our administration remains unwavering in protecting the rights of women. We will continue to provide the tools, training, and support they need to succeed and drive economic growth”, he added.
The programme is expected to enhance entrepreneurship, create jobs, and foster financial independence, ensuring that women in Lagos State are better positioned to contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy.
