Frank Lampard says Frank Onyeka has brought valuable Premier League experience and “knowhow” to Coventry City as the club pushes for promotion to the Premier League.
The Nigerian international joined the Championship leaders on loan from Brentford FC on transfer deadline day in February and has featured in all four matches since arriving, with Coventry winning each of those games.
Lampard said the 28-year-old midfielder was recruited partly to add top-flight experience to a squad that lacks significant exposure to the Premier League.
“When we recruited him the playing profile was different as we are quite light on Premier League experience,” Lampard said.
“Not many of our players have been exposed to the Premier League, some other Championship teams have lots of exposure to the Premier League.
“So there’s an experience about it, a knowhow in his game but he’s been a big impact on and off the pitch for us. His professionalism is really good and he’s clearly come in and helped our upturn in recent weeks.”
Onyeka was substituted after picking up a knock during Coventry’s victory over Stoke City FC last weekend, but Lampard said the midfielder could still be available for the upcoming fixture.
Coventry are preparing to face Bristol City FC at Ashton Gate Stadium on Saturday.
“He hasn’t trained much but he’ll train today and we’ll see how he is,” Lampard added.
