The Lagos State Government has confirmed that it is investigating an incident involving a female spectator during the 11th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon on Saturday.
In a statement on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, explained that the woman came into contact with an ambulance deployed for the event’s medical emergency response near the finish line area. The vehicle was transporting athletes who had previously required medical attention.
Officials reportedly alerted the ambulance crew immediately, and the emergency team assessed the woman on the spot. She was then transferred to a public health facility for further evaluation. “She sustained bruises and experienced chest discomfort but was stabilised at the scene. Her vital signs are normal, and she is responding well to treatment”, the commissioner said.
Omotoso added that both the Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are closely monitoring her condition, with senior government officials visiting the hospital to ensure she receives proper care.
He assured that a comprehensive investigation into how the incident occurred is underway, emphasizing that public safety during major events remains a top priority for the state government.
