With 510 days left in office, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has begun the final stretch of his administration, setting the stage for a legacy of completed projects and transformative initiatives.
With a focus on consolidating achievements and delivering people-centred projects, the Governor used the 2026 Annual New Year Thanksgiving Service at Tafawa Balewa Square to outline his vision for a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Lagos.
Reflecting on 2025, the Governor thanked God for sustaining Lagos through achievements and challenges, including Lagos Island fire incidents, and commended first responders and healthcare workers. He also acknowledged President Tinubu for initiatives benefiting the state, such as the Lagos Coastal Highway, restoration of the National Theatre, successful hosting of GITEX and the E1 Lagos GP, and Lagos’ recognition as Nigeria’s top performer in Ease of Doing Business 2025.
Looking ahead, Sanwo-Olu described 2026 as the last full year of his administration, focused on delivering transformational projects. Key initiatives include:
Healthcare: Ojo General Hospital, Massey Children’s Hospital, Psychiatric Hospital in Ketu Ereyun, Central Food Security Hub in Epe
Bridges & Infrastructure: Odo Iya-Alaro Link Bridge, Opebi–Mende Link Bridge, Alausa office complex
Roads: Igbogbo–Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Igbe Road, Agric Isawo–Konu–Arepo Road, Adamo–Akanun–Agunfoye–Lugbusi Road, and other major thoroughfares
Transport & Connectivity: Green Line Metro to Lekki Free Trade Zone, Omi Eko water transport expansion
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded, “We are four days into a new year, with 361 days ahead, each day filled with promise, potential, and opportunity. By God’s grace, Lagos State will not waste this abundance of opportunity”.
Through the THEMES+ vision, Sanwo-Olu says his administration will consolidate gains from the past six and a half years, ensuring that 2026 leaves a lasting legacy for all Lagosians.
