Preparations are in top gear for the second edition of the Capital City Race in Ikeja, scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Organisers say they are expecting an even larger turnout this year, following the resounding success of the event’s inaugural edition in 2024.
The 10-kilometre marathon, which remains free to participate in, requires runners to register online through the official Capital City Race website. This year’s race will flag off at the Ikeja City Mall and end at the AVMCC Field in Ikeja GRA, promising a vibrant and energetic atmosphere across the Lagos capital.
Endorsed by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), the event reinforces the government’s commitment to promoting fitness, wellness, and healthy living among residents of the state.
The maiden edition of the Capital City Race, held on November 23, 2024, drew over 1,000 participants who competed in the 10km run that began at City Mall, Alausa, and finished at the AVMCC Field in Ikeja GRA.
The inaugural race also offered attractive cash rewards, with winners in both male and female categories taking home ₦500,000, while the first and second runners-up earned ₦300,000 and ₦200,000, respectively.
At the time, Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, hailed the initiative as a visionary step toward encouraging residents to adopt active and healthy lifestyles.
“The Lagos State Sports Commission is ready to welcome any initiative that helps our community to be more productive and more active to impact our socio-economic endeavour,” Fatodu stated during the maiden edition.
With government backing and growing public enthusiasm, the 2025 Capital City Race is set to further strengthen Lagos’ reputation as a hub for sports tourism and community fitness events.
