As the world prepares to mark World AIDS Day, the Lagos State Government has revealed that an estimated 160,000 residents are currently living with HIV, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining treatment access and reducing transmission across the state.
The announcement comes amid ongoing HIV awareness and intervention efforts, with the state expanding free testing, prevention services, and antiretroviral therapy through hospitals and community health centres.
Officials emphasised the need for regular screening, particularly among sexually active adults, pregnant women, and other at-risk groups, while also cautioning against stigma and discrimination toward individuals living with the virus.
According to the state, early diagnosis and consistent treatment remain key to achieving viral suppression and improving quality of life.
The government noted that reducing new infections and ensuring uninterrupted care for people living with HIV remain central to its public health agenda.
