The Lagos State Government has assured investors, developers, and prospective homeowners that planning approvals will now be issued within 10 working days once all required documents are submitted.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, gave the assurance on Wednesday during a briefing on the “State of the Environment” in Lagos, where he explained that applicants must provide architectural and structural drawings, technical planning reports, engineering assessments from structural engineers, and soil test results where necessary. He added that evidence of tax payment is also mandatory.
In his remarks, Olumide said, “Once you submit all required documents and make payment after assessment, you will receive your approval within 10 working days,” Olumide said.
He noted that the streamlined process aligns with the state’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business and attracting more investments into Lagos.
Olumide also urged journalists to test the process themselves, assuring that trained officers are available to guide applicants through any outstanding requirements.
On the issue of 176 blacklisted estates, the commissioner disclosed that several developers have yet to comply with the 21-day ultimatum issued by the government to correct planning infractions. He warned that erring developers risk having their properties sealed.
According to him, many of the affected estates were built on lands designated for agricultural or industrial purposes without obtaining proper layout approvals.
“We have identified these estates and given them 21 working days to regularise their approvals. While some have responded and are making corrections, we will enforce compliance against those who fail to act,” he warned.
Olumide stressed that the enforcement drive was in the best interest of residents, ensuring that housing estates are properly planned, safe, and sustainable.
