Residents of Lagos have been urged to ignore reports of Boko Haram arrests after the State Police Commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, clarified that no such detentions took place.
In a telephone interview on Thursday, Jimoh described the claims as entirely false and warned that unverified reports could create unnecessary panic among residents. He emphasized that no Boko Haram suspects had been sighted or apprehended anywhere in Lagos.
The police chief explained that the confusion likely arose from a recent operation by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) in Lekki. During the raid, 27 individuals were apprehended for unrelated offences.
“LAGESC acted on intelligence regarding fraudulent activities in Lekki”, Jimoh said. “They arrested 26 suspects, some with no fixed address, along with several children. The suspects were taken to the agency’s office at Bolade, Oshodi, and subsequently handed over to the police.
They were found in possession of fake foreign currencies and are foreigners, not Boko Haram members”.
Jimoh reassured residents that the Lagos State Police and relevant agencies continue to work tirelessly to maintain safety and security in the state.
