The Lagos State Police Command has deployed operatives across strategic locations to prevent any unlawful disruption on the Third Mainland Bridge, following reports of a planned protest by youths from the Oworonshoki area of the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that robust security arrangements had been put in place to ensure peace and order across Lagos.
“The command is aware of information circulating regarding a planned disruption on the Third Mainland Bridge by some youths in the Oworonshoki area.
We wish to assure members of the public that adequate security measures have been implemented to maintain law and order. Our officers are fully deployed to guarantee the safety of all road users and to prevent any obstruction or breach of the peace,”
Adebisi said.
She further urged Lagos residents to go about their lawful activities without fear, noting that police personnel were on the ground to ensure uninterrupted movement and public safety.
“The command remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives and property, and ensuring the free flow of traffic across Lagos State,”
Adebisi added.
The police appeal comes amid rising tension in Oworonshoki, following recent government demolitions that reportedly left many residents homeless.
Last week, reports surfaced that the Lagos State Government began a fresh round of demolitions, targeting structures allegedly built on drainage channels and road setbacks.
The exercise, which affected the Coker and Ojulari communities, was said to have taken place around midnight on Saturday — barely hours after the government announced compensation for about 80 affected property owners.
Eyewitnesses claimed that bulldozers, escorted by armed security personnel, moved into the area under the cover of darkness to bring down remaining buildings spared in previous phases of the exercise.
Meanwhile, the police have assured that while they remain alert to prevent any breakdown of law and order, they are also committed to protecting citizens’ rights and maintaining peace throughout the state.
