The Lagos State Government has responded to allegations by Nollywood actress Sarah Martins, who claimed she was harassed and assaulted by Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) operatives during a recent community outreach activity.
Martins had shared on Instagram that she was assaulted while cooking outdoors as part of her charitable initiative.
In a statement issued Friday, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, defended the actions of the KAI officers, explaining that the actress’s activity violated state environmental and sanitation regulations.
Wahab emphasized that while the government welcomes philanthropic initiatives, all public activities must comply with Lagos State’s environmental and safety laws.
“The individual claimed to be conducting charitable cooking activities on the road median, which unfortunately contravened existing environmental and sanitation regulations,” Wahab said.
He added that the enforcement measures were necessary to prevent safety hazards and traffic disruptions, urging residents to seek proper authorization before undertaking similar public activities.
“Lagosians are encouraged to use designated spaces or obtain necessary approvals so they can contribute positively without compromising the state’s standards,” Wahab noted.
The statement underscores the government’s position that regulatory compliance is mandatory for all public initiatives, even those intended for community support.
