The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to providing safe, high-quality healthcare through rigorous monitoring, regulation, and accreditation of health facilities across the state.
The assurance was delivered by the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) during a community engagement forum in Epe, aimed at educating residents about the agency’s mandate and oversight functions.
Speaking at the town hall, HEFAMAA Permanent Secretary, Abiola Idowu, represented by the agency’s Director of Monitoring and Inspection, emphasized the importance of direct community engagement.
“Over time, we realized that the most important stakeholders, community members, were often left out. This forum is designed to inform them about HEFAMAA’s activities and government efforts to ensure safe, quality care in both public and private health facilities across Lagos”, Idowu said.
She highlighted that continuous monitoring and accreditation remain crucial in protecting residents from quackery and unsafe medical practices. Community participation, she added, is key to ensuring compliance and that only approved facilities operate within the state.
As part of ongoing reforms to enhance transparency, HEFAMAA has introduced a verification QR code system and an official HEFAMAA logo for accredited facilities. The QR code allows residents to confirm a facility’s accreditation in real time, while the logo serves as a visible mark of compliance with regulatory standards.
Idowu urged residents across all local government areas to engage in future forums and cautioned against using unregistered facilities, warning that doing so could pose serious health risks.
In his remarks, Vice Chairman of Epe Local Government, Sikiru Owolomose, commended HEFAMAA’s outreach and called for further decentralization of its activities to strengthen grassroots collaboration. He assured that the council would continue to work with the agency to enhance public awareness and promote safer healthcare practices in the community.
