Leaders and key stakeholders of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have thrown their full support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
The unanimous endorsement was made during the APC Lagos State Stakeholders’ Forum 2025, held on Tuesday at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, with top political figures, traditional rulers, and representatives from across the state in attendance.
The event brought together a host of political heavyweights, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), and Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Tajudeen Olusi. Others included Tokunbo Abiru, House of Representatives Caucus Leader, Dolapo Badru, and representatives of the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, who was represented by National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru.
Also present were members of the Lagos State Executive Council, state and federal lawmakers, local government chairmen, councillors, and hundreds of party loyalists.
Sanwo-Olu Leads Tinubu Endorsement
Leading the charge, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised President Tinubu’s “creditable and transformational performance” since assuming office, saying his leadership had already laid a strong foundation for Nigeria’s economic recovery and structural reform.
“President Tinubu has surpassed expectations within a short period,” Sanwo-Olu said. “His leadership has set the foundation for sustainable economic reforms. Lagos APC stands firmly behind him for a second term in 2027.”
The governor’s deputy, Hamzat, earlier presented the administration’s performance scorecard before the formal endorsement motion was moved by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and seconded by Speaker Obasa.
“On behalf of traditional rulers in Lagos State, we endorse President Tinubu to go for a second term,” Oba Shotobi declared.
“On behalf of my colleagues and the people of Lagos State, I so second,” Obasa added.
Fashola, Olusi Emphasize Reward and Grassroots Mobilization
Former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola called for a more structured reward system within the APC to encourage loyalty and strengthen participation across all levels of the party.
He expressed concern over declining voter turnout despite rising registration figures, stressing the need to reignite public interest in governance.
“We must reward members who sacrifice their time and resources for the party,” Fashola said. “We once had over 1.5 million active voters compared to our closest rival’s 300,000 that has changed, and we must find out why.”
Similarly, GAC Chairman, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, urged elected officials to reconnect with their constituents and maintain regular communication with grassroots supporters.
“Some of our officers have become distant from the people,” he cautioned. “We must rebuild that connection.”
Ojelabi Announces Cash Incentives for Voter Registration
Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, commended party members for their steadfastness and announced new incentives to boost voter registration ahead of 2027.
He disclosed a ₦20 million prize for the local government area with the highest number of new voter registrations and ₦5 million for the top-performing ward.
“The journey to 2027 starts now,” Ojelabi said. “Let’s mobilize, register, and ensure every eligible person gets their PVC.”
He further revealed that aspirants who lost in the recent council elections would be refunded their nomination fees after local chairmen complete appointments of aides across the 57 councils.
“Those not picked after the appointments will be refunded,” he confirmed.
APC National, Lawmakers, and Ministers Reaffirm Support
Representing the APC National Chairman, Ajibola Basiru urged members to deepen youth engagement and push back against opposition narratives.
“The defection of governors from other parties does not make Nigeria a one-party state,” he noted. “Every Nigerian still has the right to freely associate.”
Federal lawmakers from Lagos, led by Tokunbo Abiru and Dolapo Badru, also pledged continued support for Tinubu’s administration, highlighting their contributions to national development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister of State for Education, Tunji Alausa, joined other federal appointees to present performance scorecards, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
The 2025 Lagos APC Stakeholders’ Forum served not only as an endorsement platform but also as an accountability session where elected and appointed officials rendered stewardship reports and renewed their pledge to secure a decisive victory for President Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
