Party highlights policies empowering women in governance, business and social development across the state….
The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has joined the global community to celebrate women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, acknowledging their resilience, strength and significant contributions to societal development.
In a statement released by the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the party commended women for their critical role in building families, strengthening communities and driving economic growth across the state.
According to the party, women remain central to the development of Lagos, contributing across sectors including governance, commerce, education, technology and the creative industry.
The statement also highlighted the efforts of successive APC-led administrations in Lagos State, noting that several policies and programmes have been introduced over the years to promote gender inclusion, protect women’s rights and expand opportunities for women to participate in governance and economic activities.
In the area of governance, the party said Lagos has consistently maintained strong female representation in public service, with women serving in various leadership positions including commissioners, permanent secretaries, legislators, special advisers, heads of government agencies and High Court judges.
The party noted that such representation reflects its belief that inclusive leadership strengthens governance and improves policy outcomes.
On economic empowerment, the statement said thousands of women entrepreneurs, traders and artisans across the state have benefited from government-backed initiatives such as microcredit schemes, cooperative support structures and capacity-building programmes designed to support small businesses and boost household incomes.
Women operating in markets, small enterprises and creative industries have particularly benefited from these interventions, the party said.
In addition, the statement noted that Lagos State has implemented social protection policies aimed at protecting women from abuse, improving access to healthcare and promoting girl-child education.
Through various social intervention programmes, vulnerable women and families have also received support to improve their livelihoods and overall wellbeing.
The party further noted that women in sectors such as agriculture, technology, education and the creative economy have benefited from training programmes, grants and innovation support initiatives designed to help them expand their enterprises and maximise their potential.
According to the APC, these efforts reflect its broader commitment to gender inclusion and women’s empowerment as a key component of sustainable development.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Lagos APC said it would continue to support policies that encourage women’s participation in governance, expand economic opportunities for women and ensure that girls across the state have access to opportunities that enable them to achieve their ambitions.
The party also commended women across Lagos State and Nigeria for their courage, resilience and continued contributions to building stronger families, communities and institutions.
