The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon, organised by the Society for Information and Human Advancement.
According to a statement obtained from the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation’s X handle on Friday, the event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, December 13, starting at 6am.
To ensure the safety of participants and smooth traffic management, partial road closures will be implemented along key routes, including Maracana Stadium, Ojoku Street, Baale Road, Kirikiri Road, Wilmer Link Bridge, Okito Street, Kopariwo Street, Mba/Cardoso Street, Cemetery Street, Ojora Street, Oduduwa Street, Layinka Street, Bakare Faro Street, Adejiyan Street, Ishaga Street, Onishapa Street, Itire Street, Ojo Road, and Signal Barracks, the end point of the race.
All junctions and intersections along the marathon route will be temporarily closed and manned by LASTMA, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps (LSNC).
The junctions will, however, be opened intermittently to allow controlled movement of other road users.
The Lagos State Government reassured residents that the partial road closures are designed to have minimal impact on traffic flow and urged motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officers to ensure a safe and successful marathon.
