The high-profile legal battle between Kylian Mbappe and his former club Paris Saint-Germain escalated on Monday at the French labour court, with both parties presenting massive financial claims.
Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer last summer after letting his PSG contract expire, is reportedly seeking €263 million ($304 million), while the Parisian club is demanding €440 million from the France international.
The dispute centers on a failed €300 million transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, which Mbappe rejected in June 2023, along with subsequent claims PSG say arose from the player’s refusal. “We are indeed claiming 440 million euros,” said Renaud Semerdjian, one of PSG’s seven lawyers, following Monday’s hearing. He explained that the sum accounts for lost transfer revenue, alleged damage to the club’s image, and compensation for what PSG describes as a breach of an agreement with Mbappe.
Mbappe, who was not present in court, denies having signed any agreement in 2023 that would waive money owed to him by the club. His legal team of four lawyers argued on his behalf during the proceedings.
The case has drawn widespread attention in the football world, highlighting tensions between superstar players and their former clubs over transfer negotiations and contractual obligations.
