National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has pledged to introduce free education from primary to university level if elected president in the 2026 general elections.
Speaking at a massively attended campaign rally in Kisiita town council, Kakumiro district, on Tuesday afternoon, Kyagulanyi said many Ugandan families are struggling to pay school fees and that his administration would ensure access to education for all.
Meanwhile, police earlier landed a helicopter at Kakeeka Grounds in Kakumiro district, where Kyagulanyi was scheduled to hold his rally. Police also blocked Kyagulanyi’s convoy en route to Kisiita but were overwhelmed by NUP supporters.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja had earlier urged residents of the Bunyoro sub-region to shun Kyagulanyi’s campaign events. However, in a show of defiance, crowds turned up in large numbers, filling the grounds to capacity.
Kyagulanyi said many families in the country are struggling and cannot afford to raise school fees for their children to attain better education. Kyagulanyi explained that his government would establish a special education fund to support learners through all levels of education at no cost.
He added that the burden of school fees has forced many learners to drop out of school and pledged to provide free meals in all public schools. Turning to the agricultural sector, Kyagulanyi promised to modernise farming through investment in irrigation and agricultural support schemes aimed at boosting food security, creating jobs, and driving economic growth.

He said his government would stabilise prices for agricultural produce to improve farmers’ incomes and pledged to allocate more funding to agriculture, noting that the majority of Ugandans depend on farming for survival.
Kyagulanyi also urged the people of Bunyoro to prepare for opportunities arising from the oil and gas sector, saying his administration would ensure that oil revenues are used to drive social and economic transformation.
He further pledged to improve road infrastructure and health facilities, criticising the current regime for failing to equip hospitals with adequate staff, drugs, and infrastructure.
The NUP leader also cautioned residents to guard their land against speculators and tycoons allegedly grabbing land in the oil-rich region. He said that there is still room for the people of Bunyoro to demand change and elect a new leader who will protect their land.
Kyagulanyi vowed to prioritise the resolution of land conflicts in Bunyoro, promising that no one would be evicted from their land if he is elected. He called on Ugandans to support his bid for the presidency, saying his government would champion equity, social justice, and economic empowerment.
Kyagulanyi, who is on his campaign trail in the Bunyoro sub-region, is scheduled to hold rallies in Hoima district and Hoima City on Wednesday.
