The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially authorized Kwara United to move their upcoming home fixtures to the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, located in Onikan, Lagos. The stadium, which serves as the primary base for fellow top-flight competitors Ikorodu City, was selected as the temporary headquarters for the Ilorin-based club following a disciplinary ruling by the league’s governing body.
This administrative shift comes as a direct consequence of a stadium ban imposed on Kwara United. The penalty was issued in the wake of significant spectator disturbances that occurred during their rescheduled Matchday 23 encounter with Rivers United. The relocation was formally ratified on Wednesday via an official correspondence endorsed by Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL.
The “Harmony Boys” are scheduled to inaugurate their temporary residency at the Onikan waterfront this weekend, where they will face off against Rangers International in a high-stakes Matchday 30 showdown. The change in scenery adds another layer of complexity to an already difficult campaign for the side, who currently find themselves languishing in 19th place on the league table.
With only 32 points accumulated thus far, the pressure is mounting on the squad to secure a positive result away from their traditional home support. As they prepare to take the pitch in Lagos, the focus remains on whether Kwara United can overcome the logistical challenges of their relocation and find the form necessary to climb out of the relegation zone during the season’s critical final stretch.
