The Kwara State Government has announced that the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, is now fully operational.
According to officials, the facility is designed to provide lifesaving support for patients in critical conditions while enhancing the capacity of health workers to deliver advanced medical care.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, in a statement signed by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Saad Hamdalat, and released to newsmen on Tuesday in Ilorin, the state capital.
Describing the ICU as a major boost to the state’s healthcare system, El-Imam emphasized that the initiative is part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s broader reforms aimed at upgrading medical facilities across Kwara State.
“This development is a significant step in our drive to expand access to quality healthcare services for our people.
“The ICU will provide lifesaving support to patients in critical conditions, while also boosting the capacity of our health workers to deliver efficient and advanced care”, she said.
El-Imam praised Governor AbdulRazaq for his sustained investments in the health sector, noting that the new ICU will also enhance medical training, research, and clinical practices at the teaching hospital.
She assured residents that the administration remains committed to ensuring no citizen is denied access to critical care due to lack of facilities.
“This ICU will serve as a beacon of hope to families and communities, especially in emergencies,” the statement added.
The government encouraged the public to utilize the upgraded facilities and urged health workers to maintain high standards of professionalism and patient care.
Looking ahead, the Kwara State Government plans to expand critical care services to other hospitals in the state, ensuring that advanced medical support is accessible to more communities and can meet rising healthcare demands.
