The Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of ₦656.5 billion, an increase of ₦10.5 billion over the initial proposal submitted by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The budget was passed on Friday following the consideration and adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during plenary.
Announcing the passage, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, said the upward review was the outcome of detailed scrutiny aimed at ensuring fiscal realism, effective implementation, and value for money in the interest of the people of Kwara State.
“The revised budget reflects the House’s commitment to ensuring that government spending aligns with developmental priorities and prevailing economic realities,” the Speaker said.
He explained that the approved budget provides for recurrent expenditure of over ₦409.6 billion, representing an upward adjustment of about ₦10.5 billion from the executive’s original estimate.
According to him, capital expenditure has also been increased to ₦271 billion, up from ₦254 billion, to boost funding for critical infrastructure and development projects across the state.
The Speaker noted that the adjustment was necessary to fast-track priority projects and enhance service delivery in line with the development agenda of the AbdulRazaq administration.
Danladi-Salihu further disclosed that debt servicing for the 2026 fiscal year has been pegged at ₦14.2 billion, slightly higher than the earlier projection.
“The House carefully examined the budget in line with constitutional provisions and resolved to approve a realistic, responsive, and implementable budget that will deliver maximum benefits to the people of Kwara State,” he said.
He added that the legislature would continue to exercise its oversight functions to ensure prudent implementation of the budget and accountability in public spending.
