Months after a deadly raid in Kwara, abducted victims have resurfaced in a video released by terrorists, making desperate pleas for rescue after being taken from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
The victims are among hundreds abducted during the February attack on Woro and nearby communities, where more than 200 people were reportedly killed and several others taken hostage.
In the video, which surfaced on Thursday, the captives were assembled and made to speak, recounting their experiences in captivity while appealing to the authorities for urgent intervention.
Speaking in multiple languages, including English, Yoruba, Hausa and Nupe, several of the victims described the conditions they have endured and pleaded with the Kwara State Government to secure their release.
Some of the hostages disclosed that although they had been provided with food and basic care, many were battling illnesses, while others, including pregnant women, remained in distress.
One of the victims appealed directly to the public and authorities, saying the group had been given what she described as a “final opportunity” to seek help, urging swift action to rescue them.
Another captive also called on the Kwara State Government to intervene, stressing the urgency of their situation despite claims that they were not being physically harmed.
The footage emerged months after the attackers stormed Woro and Nuku communities, carrying out mass killings and abducting scores of residents.
Efforts to get official reactions were unsuccessful, as the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, and the state police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, had yet to respond to enquiries as of the time of filing this report.
The latest development has heightened concerns over the fate of the victims and the broader security situation in the affected communities.
