In a major political shift in Kano State, Alhaji Amadu Danfulani, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gobirawa Ward, widely regarded as the largest ward in Nigeria with the highest number of polling units, adds significant weight to Danfulani’s move especially with thousands of his supporters reportedly following him to the APC.
Speaking at the defection ceremony held at the Kano State APC Headquarters along Hotoro-Maiduguri Road, Danfulani expressed deep disappointment with the Kwankwasiyya Movement and its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) currently ruling the state. He criticized what he described as “anti-people policies” and emphasized the need for a more inclusive and responsive political platform.
The event was attended by several high-ranking APC officials. Representing the State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, was APC Zonal Chairman for Kano Central, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Ungoggo, alongside Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, the Managing Director of Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), who both formally received and welcomed the decampees.
Also in attendance were the Kano State APC Youth Leader and Northwest Zonal Youth Leader, Alhaji Labaran Kura, the Dala Local Government APC Chairman, Alhaji Munir Haruna, and the Gobirawa Ward APC Chairman, who officially received Danfulani into the party.
Speaking on behalf of the state chairman, Alhaji Ungoggo reiterated that the APC remains open to all opposition members willing to join, provided they comply with the party’s constitution, rules, and procedures. He went further to state that even Senator Kwankwaso himself would be welcomed back, if he adheres to the party’s guidelines.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the development, Ungoggo said:
“Gobirawa, being the largest ward in the state and the country, with the highest number of polling units, the defection of Danfulani and thousands of NNPP members to APC is a big boost for our party ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
In his remarks, Danfulani expressed enthusiasm about his new political home, pledging to work closely with Suleiman Bichi and the APC leadership to ensure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in the upcoming 2027 elections.
