In a major development for African cinema, Kunle Afolayan’s Kunle Afolayan Production (KAP) Group has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Benin to foster collaboration in the audio-visual and film production sectors.
The strategic partnership is designed to promote authentic African storytelling, empower young creatives, and develop globally competitive film infrastructure in the region.
The signing ceremony took place at the KAP Hub in Lagos and brought together a high-level delegation from Benin, led by Sinatou Saka. Other members included Coline-Lee Toumson-Venite (Special Adviser for Arts and Culture), Bassirou Ndiaye (CEO, SOPA S.A), Faissol Gnonlonfin (Director of Cinema and Performing Arts, ADAC), and Meto Adoglo (Program Manager, Sèmè City).
KAP Group’s leadership, including Group CEO Kunle Afolayan, Executive Director Seun Soyinka, and Professor Tunji Azeez, Head of School at the KAP Film & Television Academy, welcomed the delegation.
Speaking on the collaboration, Afolayan described it as a “defining moment for African cinema, where visionary leadership, cultural authenticity, and creative enterprise converge to project our stories, our people, and our creative strength to the world in the most compelling way.”
The partnership will focus on three main areas: co-production of films that highlight authentic African stories, structured youth training in filmmaking and production, and the creation of a world-class Film City in Ouidah, Republic of Benin.
Sinatou Saka praised the initiative, noting the potential for capacity building and collaboration. “We are finally happy to be working in partnership with Kunle Afolayan, especially in the area of capacity building,” she said.
As part of the official programme, the delegation will tour KAP Group’s production hub in Lagos and the KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye-Komu, Oyo State, from February 19–22.
The MoU represents a significant step toward Pan-African creative collaboration, amplifying a unified continental voice, and showcasing African stories to audiences worldwide.
