The Kenya Revenue Authority has launched Shuru, a Whatsapp chat robot to drive up filing and tax compliance, as Kenyans have decried the complication of filing returns.
The taxman targets 22.6 million new taxpayers, among 40 million Kenyan WhatsApp users with the launch of its new robot.
For the Financial Year 2024/2025, which ended on June 30, 2025, the KRA reported that approximately 7 million Kenyans were actively paying taxes out of a total of 22 million registered Personal Identification Number (PIN) holders.
