The Kogi State Government has intensified its fight against banditry and other criminal activities with a major crackdown that led to the demolition of bandits’ camps and the arrest of two wounded suspects in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out by combined security forces under the leadership of the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), saw the destruction of camps and hideouts in Aherin-Bunu community on Thursday.
Omodara told journalists at the site that two injured bandits and their local doctors were apprehended following intelligence reports that they were receiving treatment in the area.
“We received intel that two bandits were receiving treatment in a settlement in Aherin-Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu LGA. We swiftly deployed security personnel and arrested the two wounded bandits. The Governor directed that any house used for treating bandits should be demolished,” he said.
According to him, the bandits sustained gunshot wounds during an earlier exchange with security forces. Acting on Governor Ahmed Ododo’s directive, the operatives subsequently demolished the camps, including a makeshift clinic, and destroyed the bandits’ farmland and produce.
Omodara warned that anyone caught aiding or collaborating with criminals would face severe consequences, regardless of their social standing.
“We are arresting fake doctors treating them and warning that anyone perpetrating, abetting, or collaborating with criminals will be dealt with, regardless of their status. We will not accept that and we are not going to allow it,” he declared.
He added that the latest operation formed part of the state government’s broader effort to eliminate criminal elements and restore lasting peace across the state.
“Governor Ahmed Ododo has reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in Kogi State,” Omodara stated.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the demolition exercise included the torching of bandits’ camps, farmland, and other assets linked to the suspects during Thursday’s major security operation.
