Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has reportedly signalled his approval for a potential switch to Serie A title-holders Napoli when the transfer market reopens in January.
A report from Italian publication Il Mattino claims that the England international is “eager” to complete a move to Naples, with the youngster believed to be aware that a fresh start may be necessary as his development has stalled under current United boss Ruben Amorim.
According to the outlet, Napoli have resumed discussions with Manchester United and are pushing to wrap up an agreement as soon as the winter transfer window begins. The Italian champions are exploring the option of taking the 20-year-old on a straight loan, although a loan deal with an obligation to buy for a substantial fee remains on the table depending on how talks progress.
A switch to Naples would see Mainoo reconnect with former United players Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund, both of whom are already part of Antonio Conte’s squad.
Mainoo burst onto the scene during the 2023–24 season, impressing under former manager Erik ten Hag. However, the midfielder has struggled for game time this term and has made just one appearance, featuring only in the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.
The potential transfer continues to attract attention as fans await clarity on whether the highly rated midfielder will pursue regular minutes and career revival in Serie A.
