The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that it will participate in the upcoming national convention organised by the faction aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
PDP State Secretary Abubakar Kalgo said on Saturday that the decision to attend was reached unanimously by key party stakeholders. He stressed that all delegates from Kebbi would fully participate in the convention scheduled to hold from Sunday to Monday in Abuja.
“This decision demonstrates Kebbi PDP’s commitment to remaining actively engaged in national party affairs, despite past internal disagreements,” Kalgo said.
The development follows the state chapter’s earlier rejection of the emergence of Kabiru Tanimu as National Chairman during a convention in Ibadan last November.
Although Tanimu hails from Kebbi, the state PDP opposed his leadership bid, citing his perceived lack of active participation in state party activities and insufficient consultation with key stakeholders before declaring his interest.
Kalgo, however, described the Abuja convention as a platform for strengthening internal cohesion and repositioning the PDP for future political engagements.
“We are satisfied with the arrangements for the Abuja convention, and all our delegates are prepared to participate fully,” he said.
When asked whether the Kebbi PDP formally aligns with the Wike-led faction, Kalgo declined to give a direct answer, stating,
“Don’t misquote me. All I know is that we are going to the convention.”
This move signals Kebbi PDP’s continued engagement in shaping national party decisions while maintaining focus on unity and strategic positioning ahead of upcoming elections.
