The Kebbi State Government has clarified that the loud explosion reported at the General Hospital in Bagudo in the early hours of Tuesday was the result of a fire outbreak, not a bomb blast, as widely speculated on social media.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Nasir Idris. According to the statement, the explanation was provided by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) following preliminary findings by security agencies.
The SSG disclosed that initial investigations revealed the explosion originated from a fire incident within the hospital’s staff quarters, rather than from any explosive device.
He added that the Kebbi State Government is working closely with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, which have since taken full control of the situation to ensure public safety.
Reassuring residents, the SSG confirmed that no casualties were recorded, noting that although a building was affected by the incident, all occupants had safely evacuated the area before the explosion occurred.
The state government urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified or misleading information capable of causing unnecessary panic.
“All security agencies, including the Police, the Military, and other relevant units, are actively managing the situation, while investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the fire,” the statement said.
The government also commended the Kebbi State Police Command and other security operatives for their swift response in securing the area and maintaining order.
Reiterating its commitment to public safety, the Kebbi State Government assured residents of its continued dedication to the protection of lives and property across the state.
