Rehearsals for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will proceed as scheduled tomorrow (Friday), despite the government declaring it a public holiday.
Top officials at the Ministry of Education (MoE) confirmed that the rehearsals could not be rescheduled as it would interfere with the exam calendar.
Friday was declared a public holiday in honour of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga
who died on Wednesday morning in India.
Rehearsals are crucial for ensuring that both candidates and invigilators are well-prepared and familiar with the exam procedures.
“Normally rehearsals are not interfered with and officers on the ground have been duly briefed,” a senior official at Ministry of Education said.
During the rehearsals, candidates will be briefed on exam rules and regulations from the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) including instructions on acceptable behaviour, time management as well as items allowed and not allowed in the exam room.
On the other hand, teachers and exam supervisors go through protocols for invigilation, handling of exam material and ensuring exam integrity.
KCSE national exams will start on Monday October 21, 2025.
The candidates will start with orals for French, German, Arabic and Kenyan Sign Language as the first test alongside Music practicals.
