Health Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Yusuf described the achievement as a turning point in Kano’s drive for universal health coverage and stronger service delivery.
In a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, he praised Governor Yusuf’s administration for its “bold and progressive” commitment to citizens’ well-being.
“This historic achievement reflects our determination to ensure that every resident of Kano State has access to quality healthcare services,” Dr. Yusuf said. He noted that the increased funding has already begun to yield tangible results in health infrastructure development, recruitment of medical personnel, and the procurement of modern equipment for public hospitals across the state.
Signed in 2001, the Abuja Declaration commits African Heads of State to allocate at least 15 per cent of their national budgets to healthcare. With this performance, Kano joins a small group of subnational governments across Africa that have met or exceeded the target.
Dr. Yusuf said the funding supports the state’s Health Strategic Plan and ongoing partnerships to ensure lasting, measurable improvements in healthcare.
