The Kano State Government has approved more than ₦6.9 billion to fund critical infrastructure development, social welfare initiatives, and governance-related projects across the state.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, following the 36th meeting of the Kano State Executive Council at the Government House, Kano, on Thursday.
According to Waiya, the funding targets key sectors, including road construction, drainage systems, water supply, education, entrepreneurship development, and legislative reforms, underscoring the administration’s commitment to closing infrastructure gaps while strengthening state institutions.
“The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects amounting to over ₦6.9 billion, targeting areas that directly affect the lives of our people, particularly infrastructure, education, and good governance,” Waiya said.
Key Road and Infrastructure Projects
A significant portion of the funds will go to road infrastructure and community compensation. The council approved ₦859.2 million as compensation for property owners affected by a five-kilometre road project in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, aimed at ensuring fairness and minimizing disruptions.
The council also approved ₦2.6 billion for the Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road, a major route set to improve connectivity between several communities.
Additional allocations include ₦1.2 billion for the construction of a box culvert and ₦896 million for the reconstruction of a collapsed culvert in Kiru Local Government Area, an area frequently affected by flooding.
Urban drainage and water supply projects also received priority. The council approved ₦358.5 million for stormwater drainage projects in Kano Municipal and ₦85.6 million for the extension of water pipelines in Gwale Local Government Area, aimed at reducing flood risks and improving access to clean water.
Education and Entrepreneurship
In the education sector, the council approved ₦285 million for classroom construction across the state and ₦431.7 million to support graduation ceremonies and empowerment programs at the Kano State Entrepreneurship Institute.
“Investment in education and entrepreneurship remains central to our human capital development strategy,” Waiya noted.
Governance and Anti-Corruption
The Executive Council also allocated ₦157.7 million to organize an anti-corruption workshop, aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in public service.
In addition, four bills were transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly, including the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025, Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025, Education Bill 2025, and a bill proposing to rename the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta.
The council also approved the implementation of the state’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and Manual, designed to attract private sector investment in infrastructure and service delivery.
“The approval of the PPP framework signals the government’s readiness to collaborate with the private sector to accelerate development,” Waiya added.
These new approvals build on previous funding decisions, including ₦14.8 billion for projects such as the renovation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo maternity hospital, health facility upgrades, solar energy systems, and water infrastructure investments.
The latest allocations reflect Kano State’s continued commitment to improving the lives of its residents through strategic investments in infrastructure, social welfare, and good governance.
