The Kano State Government has expressed worried about statements credited to the former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, on the recent banditry attacks in the state.
The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made the statement while briefing journalists on the outcome of the state Executive Council meeting on Friday.
Waiya explained that the state government viewed the statements with concern, adding that they’re capable of disrupting peace in the state.
He said the Executive Council viewed the comments as dangerous, noting that they had the potential to instill fear, destabilize local communities, and undermine the combined efforts of the Federal and State Governments to secure Kano.
He further revealed that within 48 hours of the statements, suspected bandits infiltrated some border communities in the state an incident which the Council said raised concerns over whether the remarks were “premeditated or connected to the attack.”
The Commissioner described the statements by the former governor and the Deputy Senate President as unwelcome and threats to public safety and stability, which can encourage bandits to attack communities in Kano State.
The state government called on the security agencies to live up to their responsibilities by taking action against the two APC leaders.
Recently, Ganduje revealed his plan to provide a new future for the 12,000 Hisbah officers, who their dismissed by the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, with the possibility of establishing an independent Hisbah Commission to continue carrying out religious and moral affairs.
