Panic erupted in Ridawa village, Kano State, on Wednesday after a sand pit used for brick-making suddenly caved in, trapping several labourers underground. Residents and fellow workers rushed to the scene to begin frantic rescue efforts.
The lawmaker representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency, Sani Bala, said preliminary reports indicated that about 10 people might be trapped. He called for urgent intervention from authorities and the deployment of specialised rescue equipment to support ongoing operations.
“We need urgent assistance to save those still trapped. The community is doing its best, but professional rescue support is required”, Bala said.
As of filing this report, rescue teams and villagers were digging through the rubble in a bid to reach the buried victims. Several people remain trapped, raising fears that the death toll could rise.
