Allegations of medical negligence have prompted the Kano State Hospitals Management Board to order an immediate probe into the death of Aishatu Umar at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre.
The family of the deceased claimed that during a September operation, surgical scissors were accidentally left inside her body and that her condition deteriorated while receiving treatment at the facility.
In a statement on Tuesday, the board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, said the management had taken note of the reports, describing the circumstances of Umar’s death as distressing.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Mansur Nagoda, directed that a thorough investigation be conducted to establish the facts surrounding the case. Suleiman added that the probe would examine all medical and administrative procedures related to the patient’s care.
“The investigation will be transparent, impartial, and professional. Appropriate action will be taken in line with established regulations if negligence is confirmed”, Suleiman quoted Dr. Nagoda as saying.
The board extended condolences to the family of the late Umar and assured the public that the matter would be handled with the seriousness it deserves.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to patient safety and high standards of healthcare delivery across Kano State. “The government remains dedicated to ensuring quality healthcare services in all state facilities”, the statement said.
