The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has launched a high-profile investigation into the alleged diversion of more than ₦4 billion in state funds to the Dala Inland Dry Port project, reportedly linked to the family of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
According to the commission, the probe focuses on claims that multi-billion-naira contracts for infrastructure development at the dry port were awarded during Ganduje’s tenure, shortly after Kano State’s 20 percent equity stake in the project was allegedly transferred to members of the former governor’s family in 2020.
The alleged transaction effectively removed the state government as a shareholder and purportedly installed Ganduje’s children as directors and beneficiaries in what was originally a public-private investment.
By the time the contracts were executed, reports indicate that Kano State no longer held any stake in the project.
Confirming the development, Saidu Yahya, Chairman of the PCACC, said the investigation was prompted by multiple petitions submitted by concerned citizens over the alleged misappropriation of state funds.
“Yes, we received petitions from the public on the alleged diversion of over ₦4 billion of Kano State funds into the Dala Inland Dry Port by the immediate past administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje,” Yahya said.
He disclosed that the commission has invited several individuals of interest and that one suspect was arrested and later released on bail after providing vital information to investigators.
“Our investigation has so far revealed that one of the key parties involved is currently in Yola, Adamawa State,” Yahya added.
The PCACC chairman further stated that the commission has established a prima facie case and that the matter will soon be charged to court for prosecution.
“We are committed to ensuring accountability and transparency in the management of public funds. The law will take its full course,” Yahya affirmed.
