Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane has set a new milestone in the UEFA Champions League, surpassing David Beckham’s long-standing record for goal contributions by an English player.
Kane, 32, achieved the feat on Wednesday night after netting twice in Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea at the Allianz Arena. His brace took his total goal involvements in the competition to 53, comprising 42 goals and 11 assists.
The previous record of 52 contributions was held by Beckham, who starred for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain before retiring in 2013.
With the record now his, Kane will turn his attention back to domestic action as Bayern prepare to face Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga this weekend.
