Award-winning Nigerian choreographer Kaffy has encouraged women and young girls to shift their focus from seeking approval from others to investing in personal development.
The 45-year-old dancer and fitness coach made the call while speaking with Channels Television during the International Women’s Day celebration organised by Wema Bank.
According to Kaffy, true transformation comes from within and should not require individuals to compromise their identity.
She explained that personal growth must be rooted in self-awareness, stressing that people should use their strengths and individuality to influence their environment rather than changing themselves to gain acceptance.
Reflecting on her own journey, the choreographer said she once sacrificed parts of herself while trying to meet external expectations, a decision that later forced her to rediscover her true identity.
Kaffy also spoke about the challenges many women face while growing up, including limited mentorship and support from older generations.
Despite these gaps, she reassured young women that guidance still exists and encouraged them to remain open to learning opportunities when they arise.
The dancer advised girls to embrace mentorship whenever they encounter it and to practice forgiveness toward those who may have been unable to guide them properly.
She emphasised that many women are still navigating their own struggles, which sometimes prevents them from fully supporting others.
Kaffy further urged young women to focus on shaping their future rather than dwelling on past disappointments.
According to her, the next generation of women has the responsibility to create a better society by prioritising knowledge, emotional healing, and courage.
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually around the world, recognises the achievements of women while promoting gender equality and empowerment.
