Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has opened up about the daily struggles she faces in maintaining her commitment to sexual purity and moral integrity amid fame and career demands.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Jenifa’s Diary star shared that she experiences the same emotional and physical desires as everyone else, but chooses to abstain as an expression of her faith.
“Sometimes when people talk to me about sex and purity, I wonder if they think I don’t have blood flowing in my veins,” she wrote. “It’s not that I don’t have desires, or that I don’t want affection or intimacy, it’s just that I love and honour God more, and I hate to hurt Him.”
Olayode explained that her choice to remain celibate is not due to a lack of temptation but a deliberate commitment to her faith. She revealed that this conviction often influences her career decisions, including the rejection of movie roles, endorsement deals, and opportunities that conflict with her values.
She admitted that saying “no” sometimes makes her feel foolish, especially when people online mock her for not appearing in blockbuster films or accuse her of having a stagnant career.
“It’s not easy for me,” she said. “I feel stupid sometimes walking away from money or big projects. I sometimes feel like a loser when people talk about not seeing me in movies. But they don’t know the number of scripts I’ve had to turn down for the sake of what I believe.”
The actress also addressed concerns about her personal life, particularly from fans who worry that her commitment to abstinence might make it hard to find a compatible partner.
To them, she offered reassurance rooted in her faith: “Those who worry about me getting a good man, don’t worry. The God I know gives the best gifts.”
Acknowledging her imperfections, Olayode said her journey is one of constant renewal, choosing obedience over impulse, and faith over fame.
“God brought me here, and tomorrow He might want me somewhere else,” she wrote. “Even if He doesn’t reward me now, which He will, I’ll still choose Him. I’m grateful for this journey, and I know the one who has held me this long will carry me till the end.”
Olayode’s openness has drawn admiration from fans and colleagues who praised her for her transparency and courage to uphold her convictions in a morally challenging industry.
