The Nigerian Senate has strongly condemned the recent killings in Rukuba village in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the attack as brutal and unacceptable.
Lawmakers are calling for urgent security action and accountability following the incident, which left several residents dead and others injured.
The Upper Chamber has urged security agencies to immediately track down those responsible and ensure they are prosecuted.
It also directed the Inspector General of Police to launch a comprehensive investigation into the attacks across affected communities in Plateau State.
The Senate further resolved to send a high-level delegation, led by the Senate President, to the affected areas to commiserate with victims and assess the security situation on ground.
In addition, lawmakers called on the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to mobilise relief materials for displaced and affected families.
A minute of silence was observed in the Senate in honour of those who lost their lives in the attack.
The resolutions followed a motion sponsored by senators representing Plateau State, who raised concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of the state.
Leading the motion, Senator Diket Plang described Plateau State as a region long known for peace and tourism, but increasingly affected by repeated violent attacks.
He noted that recent incidents in Kanam and Jos North Local Government Areas appear coordinated and targeted at vulnerable communities.
Other lawmakers supported the motion, warning that the cycle of violence is eroding peace and threatening coexistence in affected areas.
Presiding over the session, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin put the motion to a voice vote, which was unanimously adopted.
Lawmakers say the latest attacks highlight the urgent need to strengthen security operations and restore lasting peace in Plateau State.
