Manchester United’s Head of Loans and Pathways, Jonny Evans, has revealed the two former teammates he believes stood out as being on a completely different level from the rest during his time at Old Trafford.
Evans, a Northern Irish defender, enjoyed two separate stints with Manchester United — his first spanning from 2006 to 2015, and his second in 2023. Across both periods, he made a total of 198 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.
During his initial spell, Evans lifted an impressive collection of trophies, including three Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League crown, and two League Cups. Upon his return to the club for a second tenure, he added an FA Cup title in 2024 to his achievements, featuring in 43 matches across all competitions that season.
Reflecting on his time playing alongside some of Manchester United’s greatest names, Evans singled out two players who, in his view, possessed football intelligence beyond compare.
“I always thought Scholes and Giggs were on another level to the rest of the team,” Evans told newsmen. “Even though we had world-class players, I felt like their IQ was just a little bit higher than everyone else’s.”
His comments have reignited admiration among fans for United icons Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, who remain two of the most celebrated figures in the club’s storied history.
