Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has spoken about her marriage to industry icon Olu Jacobs, highlighting what she considers one benefit of marrying an older partner.
The 64-year-old actress made the remarks during a recent appearance on Your View on TVC.
Reflecting on Their Love Story
Silva and Jacobs tied the knot in 1985. At the time, Jacobs was 44 while Silva was 24. Their marriage has produced two children and remains one of Nollywood’s most enduring unions.
Speaking about how they met, Silva said their first encounter happened on stage before they crossed paths again on a movie set. She admitted that she was initially unaware of Jacobs’ age.
“Everybody knew it was the great Olu Jacobs who was coming, except me,” she said. “When he came, we got on very well. It was after we started dating that I discovered his age because he looked so good.”
She noted that while it was love at first sight for Jacobs, her feelings developed gradually.
“For him, it was love at first sight, but for me, it wasn’t,” she explained.
‘Older Men Let You Get Away With Things’
Silva added that one advantage she has observed in marrying an older man is the flexibility it offers.
“These older men allow you to get away with a lot of things,” she said, without elaborating further.
Her comments have sparked conversations online about age differences in relationships, particularly within the entertainment industry, where the couple has long been admired for their enduring partnership.
