Chelsea legend Joe Cole has identified the club he believes currently boasts the most dominant group of central midfielders in the Premier League. According to the former England international, Chelsea now hold the finest midfield unit in the English top flight.
Goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez secured a 2-0 victory for the Blues at Turf Moor, a result that lifted the London side into second place in the league table on Saturday. Cole also suggested that the Premier League title chase could develop into a two-team contest involving Arsenal and Chelsea.
The Blues’ midfield roster includes Moises Caicedo, Andrey Santos, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia, a quartet Cole insists stands above any other midfield combination in the division.
He told newsmen, “Now Chelsea have got Enzo, Lavia, Caicedo, and Santos. Is there a collection of four central midfielders better in the Premier League? I don’t think there is.”
He added, “It’s looking rosy. Three points behind Arsenal going into the game next week. Chelsea could be sneaking back into title contention.”
Saturday’s triumph over Burnley marked the first occasion in which manager Enzo Maresca opted not to feature Caicedo in a Premier League fixture.
