Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has lent her voice to the growing call for women’s access to sexual and reproductive health care, as she joins the “Shift the Needle” campaign, an initiative aimed at expanding family planning resources across Nigeria.
In an Instagram post, Osunde highlighted the campaign’s mission to empower women through education, healthcare access, and reproductive autonomy, stressing that such empowerment benefits entire communities.“I truly believe that when you empower women, you empower entire communities,” she wrote.
The actress described the campaign as deeply personal, explaining that family planning allows women to take charge of their futures, complete their education, and pursue careers without interruption.
“Shift the Needle campaign is personal to me. It’s about giving young women access to the information, resources, and healthcare they need to make choices for themselves. Because when women have the power to decide, they can finish school, build careers, and live on their own terms,” Osunde said.
She further noted that unplanned pregnancies can disrupt a woman’s life trajectory, underscoring the importance of access to contraception and accurate reproductive health information.
“Unplanned pregnancies can significantly derail a woman’s life. More than we could ever imagine. I support family planning. I support body autonomy. I support women having a shot at life and all that it offers,” she added.
The “Shift the Needle” campaign, backed by women’s health advocates and partner organizations, seeks to reduce barriers to contraception, improve awareness, and promote gender equality, particularly in underserved Nigerian communities.
Osunde’s advocacy adds to her growing reputation as one of Nollywood’s outspoken voices for women’s rights and empowerment.
