Sporting Lagos head coach Jeff Butter has reaffirmed the club’s resolve to sustain their winning form as they transition into the second half of the Nigeria National League (NNL) season. The Lagos-based side concluded the year 2025 at the pinnacle of the Conference B table, amassing 13 points across seven competitive fixtures.
This successful run reached a high point last weekend when the “Tech Boys” secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ekiti United in their final first-stanza encounter, thanks to a stoppage-time winner that solidified their lead.
Butter expressed immense pride in the squad’s development and their ability to secure results under pressure. He noted that the primary objective for the initial phase was to establish a dominant position in the standings, a goal the team achieved with a record of four wins and only one defeat. The technical crew views the current interval as a critical period to fine-tune tactical operations before embarking on the final push toward the promotion spots.
“I was happy with the boys’ performance after our last game of the year against Ekiti United,” Butter told Sporting Lagos media. “The goal is to finish the year on top and stay close to the promotion place.”
The focus now shifts to the 2026 resumption, where Sporting Lagos faces a daunting away trip to Uyo to battle Godswill Akpabio FC. With the NNL abolishing the traditional Super 8 playoffs for direct promotion this season, every match in the second stanza carries immense weight for Butter’s men. The management continues to emphasize the importance of squad depth and consistency as they prepare to defend their top spot and secure a return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
