Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has criticised manager Arne Slot for his team selection following the Reds’ 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield on Wednesday.
Slot opted to rest several key players, including Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but the decision backfired as Ismaila Sarr netted a first-half brace and Yeremy Pino added a third to send Palace through.
Speaking during an interview, Redknapp said the Dutch coach got it wrong on the night:
“It was the wrong team, make no mistake. You have not made it easy for the young players because of the team and players around them.”
He added:
“You can’t tell me that he picked that team thinking it would get a result against a really good Crystal Palace side. He’s made a mistake today, but he’s been unbelievable since he came to the club. This is real pressure for everyone concerned — but that’s football.”
