Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has identified Arsenal as the strongest side in the Premier League this season, offering his assessment shortly after Manchester City’s commanding 3-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday.
City’s victory lifted them into second place, pushing Chelsea out of that spot, and brought them within four points of league leaders Arsenal. But despite the champions’ impressive display, Carragher maintained that Mikel Arteta’s squad has been the standout team in England so far.
The former England defender also noted that Manchester City will continue to pressure Arsenal in the title race, especially given the Gunners’ struggles against Pep Guardiola’s men in recent seasons.
Carragher told newsmen:
“Twice in the last three years, they’ve come from behind and caught Arsenal.
“Liverpool are the champions but City took them to the cleaners.
“They [Arsenal] might be getting a few flashbacks to the last couple of times they had a chance at a title.
“I still think Arsenal are the best team I’ve seen in the Premier League this season, no doubt.”
Arsenal enter the international break four points behind Manchester City and will be aiming to return to winning form when domestic action resumes.
