Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has insisted that Arsenal’s path to the Premier League title this season is largely in their own hands.
Speaking during an interview after the Gunners’ 4-1 demolition of north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Carragher praised Mikel Arteta’s squad for their commanding performance. The win extended Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to six points, giving them a golden opportunity to end a long-standing league title drought.
“The only team that can stop Arsenal winning the league is Arsenal; they are the best team,” Carragher said.
“They are the best squad. The only thing that can stop them is their own heads, their own mentality. I always think the case has been that there has been a team slightly better than them in the Premier League, but that is definitely not the case this season.”
With three consecutive seasons finishing as runners-up, Arsenal now appear poised to finally reclaim the Premier League crown, provided they maintain their focus and consistency for the remainder of the campaign.
