The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Thursday that it has nullified the recent admission exercise for the Law Faculty at Lead City University, a private institution located in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, stated that the Board has received numerous complaints regarding what has been perceived as a deliberate disregard for duty concerning the admission of candidates into the Law Faculty.
Dr. Benjamin clarified two key points: First, Lead City University is currently under a five-year admission ban imposed by the Council for the Legal Education, making it ineligible to admit new students into its Law program.
Second, the admissions in question were not processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), which is the only platform authorized for processing admissions to tertiary institutions in Nigeria. As a result, these admissions are rendered void and unrecognized by JAMB.
He strongly cautioned prospective candidates against accepting any admissions that were not processed through CAPS, as JAMB will not acknowledge or support such offers.
Additionally, transfers from other universities related to these void admissions will not be endorsed by JAMB unless the candidate was initially admitted through CAPS.
Dr. Benjamin urged candidates who received offers of admission outside of the CAPS framework to disregard them and begin preparing for the next Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). He emphasized the importance of pursuing legitimate admissions through the appropriate channels.
“This sad development once again underscore the importance of heeding the Board’s repeated and unequivocal advice to candidates not to accept any offer of admission outside CAPS as admission that is not processed and approved on CAPS is fake.
“Any admission offered outside CAPS is nothing more than an exercise in futility. Candidates admitted through such irregular means have no legitimate claim as they are considered complicit,” he added.
